New Media Net Warriors: The Blogosphere and Asian American Activism on the World Wide Web

Community activism is most powerful when it reaches a large number of people.  Are you effectively using the web to maximize the impact of your message?  Come to our workshop to learn about how Asian Americans have used web tools to organize people and ideas, and learn how you too can become a new media net warrior!

Presenters:

Byron Wong is the president of Thymos, a local Portland Asian American activist group.  He blogs, podcasts, and moderates bigWOWO.com and theFighting44s.com, two of the more popular Asian American activist sites on the internet.   Byron believes that with the right approach, the internet can be a great tool for finding, communicating with, and organizing people.

Zach Katagiri is president of Sight Sound and Sentiment, specializing in music and film production, graphic design, and web design in New York City. He recently co-founded PeachyHost, a webhosting company that strives to offer solid, open, and honest webhosting, treating customers fairly and working to illuminate what, for many, is the black-box of the world wide web. He feels very fortunate to be able to labor for love, and make a living off of it, and hopes that, through media channels, he can also help other people share their passions with the world.
